FAQ

Do you offer other types of photography sessions?

I specialize in family, newborn, and maternity photography. I feel that focusing on these enables me to fully concentrate on the unique needs and desires of families. This allows me the time I need to work on creating images that will be treasured by families for generations. As such, I do not offer other types of photography, but am happy to recommend other fabulous photographers that might fit what you are looking for!

When should I book my session?

Family portrait sessions can be booked at any time.

Maternity sessions should be booked when you’re between 20 and 28 weeks, as the session will take place between 30 and 35 weeks.

Newborn sessions should be booked before baby arrives! I do newborn shoots when baby is 5-14 days old, and I only take on a limited number per month so that sessions don’t overlap when baby decides to come early or late :). Book your session as early as possible to ensure your date is available!

When will my maternity session take place?

I shoot maternity sessions when you are between 30 and 35 weeks along in your pregnancy.

When will my newborn session take place?

Newborn sessions are done between days 5 and 14 after baby is born. This is the time when babies are most pliable, and still sleepy enough to be posed in those cute little positions that make newborn photos so adorable. When you book your session we’ll schedule it for around a week after your due date, and then you’ll call me as soon as baby arrives (just not at 3am please!) and we’ll set a final date for the shoot at that time.

If you’ve missed the 2-week window for a newborn session, not to worry, we can still photograph your new bundle of joy, I just can’t promise any of the posed newborn positions that are typical of newborn photography. Your session will likely be more of a lifestyle session, which is equally as precious!

Where will my session take place?

I shoot on location, so if you have a favorite spot let me know and we’ll see if it will be a good fit for your session! I also have a few favorite spots I like to shoot if you don’t even know where to start ;).

Newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your own home.

When is payment for my session due?

A retainer fee of $250 for portrait sessions or $400 for newborn sessions, along with your signed contract, is due at the time of booking, in order to hold your session date.  Please contact me for more information on pricing and payment.

What happens if it rains?

Well, we DO live on the Wet Coast, so rain is always a possibility. Often times your session can go ahead as scheduled, it may just mean a change of location to somewhere with a bit of shelter. If it’s a torrential downpour we’ll reschedule your session with no penalty. Rescheduling is at the sole discretion of the photographer.

What if my baby cries / child acts up?

Not to worry, I do have 4 boys of my own, remember!  For newborn sessions, baby sets the pace of the session.  I don’t schedule any other sessions that day, so we just take our cues from baby and break for feedings, changes, and cuddles whenever we need to.  With toddlers and other children (or spouses!) that may get cranky, I suggest bringing small non-messy snacks and drinks that we can take short breaks for.  Sometimes a favorite toy or stuffed animal will help a child to calm down and engage in the session more.  I also shoot really fast, and it’s usually not hard to capture the odd smile or giggle that inevitably surfaces at some point :)

Do you have a referral program?

I sure do!  Refer someone to Samantha Chapman Photography and upon their booking a session you will receive a $100 gift certificate valid towards any of the services or products I offer, and the person/family you referred will receive a $200 print credit to use at their viewing & ordering session!
